E. David Silverberg
Attorney
E. David Silverberg has been a family law attorney for more than 40 years in the Maryland area and is well known in the legal community by attorneys, judges and court personnel.
A graduate from the University of Baltimore in 1964, he began his private legal practice after passing the Maryland State Bar examination in 1965.
E. David Silverberg has been a solo practitioner since 1965. Since 1979, his legal focus has been in the area of Family and Domestic Law. He has been a guest lecturer for the Maryland Institute for Continuing Professional Education [MICPEL] on Family and Domestic law matters. In the past, he has also been a guest lecturer for the Baltimore County Circuit Court Divorce Education Workshop. He is a frequent guest lecturer at Stevenson University, formerly Villa Julie College, in the areas of Family Law and Civil Procedure.
As a long time member of the Baltimore County Bar Association and the Family Law Committee, David has prepared "Brown Bag" lunch seminars on technology and discovery topics. In addition to the Family Law Committee, David has participated in other Committees for the Bar Association of Baltimore County, including the Technology and Small Firm/Solo Practitioner Committees.
He was an Assistant City Solicitor from 1969 to 1978, while maintaining a busy private practice. As an Assistant City Solicitor, he tried many cases as the lawyer for Baltimore City. David was also the designated representative to the Baltimore City Police Complaint Evaluation Board and was the Acting Chairman of that Board for many years.
Since leaving the City Solicitors Office in 1978, his private practice steadily increased and he began to focus on Divorce and Family Law cases. Around this time, the State Legislature created an entirely new area of Divorce and Family Law as it pertained to the division of property upon divorce and how to create an equitable division of property acquired during a marriage. This development meant that the title to property was no longer the primary consideration in dividing property at the time of a divorce.
He was tapped by members of the Maryland State Bar Association Family Law Section Counsel to assist in drafting legislation to modify a decision from the Court of Appeals. This legislation ultimately was adopted by the Legislature which clarified and simplified Family Law as it pertained to the division of property at the time of divorce.
David has always networked with other attorneys who practice in other areas of the law. This has enabled him to concentrate on Family Law and related Divorce issues. He receives many referrals from other attorneys who have neither the experience nor the background in Divorce Law or Family Law, but who have knowledge or experience in other areas of the law.
He has also served as:
- A member of the Maryland State Bar Association and the Baltimore County Bar Association.
- An Assistant City Solicitor for Baltimore City, while maintaining a full-time private practice (1968 - 1978).
- A panel member of the Peer Review Committee for the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland.A FEATURED LECTURER ON FAMILY LAW:
- The Maryland Institute for Continuing Professional Education of Lawyers [MICPEL].
- The Baltimore County Divorce Education Workshop.
- The Baltimore County Bar Association Family Law Committee.
- Guest lecturer at Stevenson University on Family Law and Civil Procedures.
He will make every reasonable overture towards settling a legal case, but believes that the best way to settle a case is for his opponent to be aware that the case is ready for trial.
